Below is list of treatments Mr Casey offers, with useful links for further reading.

Artificial disc replacement
(inc. cervical disc replacement)

This is a type of joint replacement procedure in which a damaged natural disc is removed and replaced by an artificial disk (also known as a disc replacement device).

This procedure helps to preserve mobility, allowing for improved movement between the two remaining vertebrae and avoiding the need to fuse the vertebrae together.

Keyhole spinal decompression

A minimally invasive procedure, this type of spinal surgery is used to alleviate symptoms including chronic pain and numbness resulting from nerves in the spine becoming pinched. During the procedure, Mr Casey will remove a small portion of the bone covering the nerve root and, if necessary, some of the disc as well.

Lumbar disc microdiscectomy

Another procedure that looks to alleviate chronic symptoms including pain and numbness, lumbar disc microdiscectomy surgery is used to treat pinched nerves in the lumbar (lower) spine. Mr Casey is able to remove just the parts of the bone and/or disc causing pressure, ensuring that disruption to the surrounding tissue is kept to an absolute minimum.

Minimally invasive spinal surgery (MISS)

Whether endoscopic (keyhole) or robotically assisted, minimally invasive spinal surgery is an alternative to open surgery.

Rather than the large incisions often associated with open surgery, MISS requires much smaller cuts on your back, typically between two and five centimetres. Among the benefits patients typically experience are less bleeding during the operation, reduced pain afterwards and a quicker recovery.

Mr Casey will discuss your individual circumstances and condition with you to ascertain whether you could benefit from MISS and discuss which procedure will be most suitable.

Posterior cervical decompression

This is a spinal procedure to alleviate the symptoms of cervical myelopathy, or stenosis, including chronic pain and numbness, without the need for fusion.

Fusion is a technique most often used for patients with multi-level stenosis, where multiple segments of the spine require decompression. You can find out more about spinal fusion here.

“Posterior” refers to the approach of entry for the procedure which, in this instance, is from the back of the neck.  During the surgery, Mr Casey will remove the bone causing pressure on the pinched nerve in order to relieve that pressure, ensuring minimal damage.

If you can’t see the treatment you’re looking for, please don’t worry. There’s no need to live with pain and discomfort, all you need to do is get in touch and find out how Mr Casey’s wide-ranging expertise can help you. Our team is waiting to hear from you.
